The risks of remote working
Allowing employees to access company data from offsite locations raises concerns about data encryption, the security of wireless connections, use of removable media and potential loss or theft of devices and data. With remote working becoming the new norm for a lot of businesses security is key.
Is BYOD secure?
A bring your own device (BYOD) approach is often preferable for most businesses. Not only does it significantly reduce IT costs, but employees will always be able to work on their device in the event of unforeseen circumstances that prevent them from traveling to the office. Unlike a managed device approach, employees using their own personal devices have more freedom over what and where they can view or download sensitive data, making robust security even more critical.
The risks involved
One of the biggest issues BYOD approach is how to prevent sensitive data loss or theft from unmanaged devices. You need to be fully aware of the issues involved by your employees using their personal devices for work-related matters. For instance, they may suddenly leave the company and hold on to the confidential information that has been stored on their device during their employment and you will not get the chance to erase it. What’s more, they may not be keeping their software up-to-date, which opens up security holes in your environment.
